Hygiene Services

Cleaner teeth, healthier gums, fewer fillings over a lifetime. Our hygiene appointments are done by Dental Therapists using Guided Biofilm Therapy as standard.

What Are Hygiene Services

A hygiene appointment has two jobs. The first is teaching you to clean your own teeth properly at home. The second is removing the build-up your toothbrush can't reach. Done well, both together mean fewer fillings, healthier gums, and a mouth that feels noticeably better between visits.
At Tangmere, hygiene appointments are done by Dental Therapists rather than standard hygienists. Therapists have more training and can do more, which means more useful time with you in the chair. Every appointment also has a Dental Nurse on hand, which keeps things safer and quicker.

Who Hygiene Services Are For:

  • Anyone wanting their teeth cleaned to a higher standard than they can manage at home
  • Patients with bleeding gums or early signs of gum disease
  • People who notice surface staining from coffee, tea, red wine or smoking
  • Patients with crowns, bridges, implants or orthodontic work that needs specialist cleaning
  • Anyone who wants to learn what good cleaning at home actually feels like

  • Early gum disease and bleeding gums
  • Coffee, tea, wine and smoking stains

What Happens at a
Tangmere Hygiene Appointment

1

Quick Check of Where You're At

We look at your gums and teeth, check for any new build-up since your last visit, and ask how you've been getting on with your home care. If anything has changed since your last appointment, this is when we pick it up.

2

Cleaning With Guided Biofilm Therapy

Most of the appointment is the actual clean. We use Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) as standard - a gentle stream of air, warm water and fine powder that removes plaque, staining and biofilm without the scratchy scraping of metal scalers. It works above and below the gumline, and patients consistently tell us it's the most comfortable cleaning they've had.

3

Personal Cleaning Coaching

We'll show you how to clean your own teeth properly using your own brush and floss. Bring whatever you use at home. Good technique is more important than an expensive brand of toothbrush, and most people pick up at least one thing they could be doing better.

4

Plan for Next Time

We agree when your next hygiene visit should be. Most people come in every six months. If you're at higher risk, we may suggest every three or four months. If you're in great shape, we may stretch it to twelve.
