What Tangmere Teeth Whitening Involves

Our whitening is the prescription kind, which means it uses gels at strengths only a dentist can supply. You wear custom-made trays at home, usually for an hour or two a day or overnight, for about two weeks. Most people see a real difference within the first few days.
Whitening is one of the safest cosmetic treatments we offer. It doesn't damage enamel or change the shape of your teeth. It can be repeated when you want to top up, and we send you home with enough gel to do the full course plus some left over.

Who Teeth Whitening Is For:

  • Anyone unhappy with the colour of their teeth
  • Patients with staining from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking or age
  • People who've had braces or Invisalign and want to finish with whiter teeth
  • Patients before a wedding, big event or new job
  • Anyone whose teeth have gone slightly yellow with time

Problems Teeth Whitening Solves:

  • General yellowing or dullness with age
  • Surface staining that hygiene visits don't fully remove
  • Stains from food and drink
  • Smoking staining
  • Lack of confidence about showing your teeth
  • Mismatched colour between teeth and existing crowns or veneers (we'd whiten first, then match the crown)

Free Whitening with Invisalign or Six Month Smiles

Whitening is included free of charge when you complete a course of Invisalign or Six Month Smiles at Tangmere. Most patients finish their orthodontic treatment with whiter, straighter teeth in one go.

How Tangmere
Whitening Works

1

Initial Consultation

We check your teeth and gums are healthy enough for whitening. Active decay, gum disease or untreated sensitivity will need sorting first. We also discuss what's realistic - whitening works best on natural tooth enamel, less so on crowns, veneers and old fillings, which won't change colour.

2

Custom Tray Impressions

We take impressions of your upper and lower teeth and make custom trays in our lab. Custom trays matter. They hold the gel against your teeth properly and protect your gums from the bleach.

3

Take Home and Use

At the second visit we give you your trays, the prescription gel, and clear instructions. You apply a small amount of gel into the trays each evening and wear them for the recommended time. Most people get a noticeable change after a few days, with the full effect at around two weeks.

4

Follow-Up and Top-Up Gels

We check the result with you and send you home with extra gel for top-ups. Most patients top up every 12-18 months depending on diet, smoking and how white they want to stay. You keep your trays for life - top-ups only cost the price of the gel.

Frequently Asked Questions About
Teeth Whitening

That depends on your starting point and what your teeth respond to. Most patients see a noticeable change, typically 3-8 shades brighter on the standard dental shade chart. We'll give you a realistic estimate at your consultation.

Yes. The prescription gels we use are well-tested and safe when used in custom trays. The most common side effect is temporary sensitivity, which settles within a few days of finishing the course.

Some patients get mild sensitivity during the two-week course, particularly to cold drinks. It's temporary and settles quickly after you finish. If you already have sensitive teeth, tell us before we start and we'll adjust the protocol.

Typically 1-3 years before most patients want to top up. Diet, coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all affect how long the result holds. Top-ups are quick and only cost the price of additional gel.

No. Whitening only works on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, veneers and old fillings won't change colour. If you have visible crowns or veneers that no longer match your other teeth, we may suggest whitening first and then replacing the crown or veneer to match.

Strength, fit and safety. Over-the-counter products are limited by law to much weaker concentrations of bleach, so they take longer and produce less of a result. The trays are also one-size-fits-all, which means the gel can leak onto gums and cause irritation. Custom trays plus prescription-strength gel is the difference.

Yes. Tooth whitening at Tangmere is done by our Dental Therapists, who are trained to provide it directly. You don't need to see the dentist first.
